In loving memory of Zeke – our guardian angel; a gentle and loving soul. Zeke now runs free across Fell Timber Farm, a white silhouette in the mist, continuing to watch over the herd and all who visit his home.

Ali is a certified Equine Assisted Learning Practitioner with the Equine Psychotherapy Institute, and has undertaken advanced training in working with Trauma and Attachment, Anxiety and Depression, Addictions, and Nature-Assisted Learning. Ali is also certified as a coach with the Institute for Executive Coaching and Leadership, and is currently completing a Diploma of Counselling to further expand the services delivered by Helping Hooves.

Ali joined the Australian Army as an officer after finishing year 12, and throughout her 20-year military career she has gained experience leading small teams and managing telecommunications projects in operational theatres, and has extensive instructional experience of various sized groups up to 350 people. For the last ten years Ali has provided mentoring and leadership coaching to Australian Defence Force trainees and instructional staff, both one-on-one and in small groups, which she continues to do at the Australian Defence Force Academy as a Major in the Australian Army Reserve.

Ali has an unfortunate, but valuable, amount of first-hand experience supporting others with mental health challenges, from immediate suicide interventions, through to long term assistance with PTSD, moral injury, anxiety and depression. She has had her own mental health challenges, especially with anxiety, and has also navigated the uncomfortable and daunting process of transitioning away from full-time military service, when that was all she knew.

With a new tiny human, Elsie, bringing both an overwhelming joy and new level of fear into her life, Ali is discovering how her boundaries have changed since the arrival of her baby daughter. She is also a loving wife to Greg and supports him with the long-term physical and mental impacts of his own life of Service.

Ali’s horses have helped her through some of her most challenging times, and are her greatest teachers. They have supported her through her own healing and connecting with her authentic self. She is passionate about helping others, and wants to share the gifts that her herd have to offer.

Greg is the number one big human in Ali’s life! With the arrival of Elsie, he will primarily be on Daddy Duties, but you will likely see him around the farm, tiny human in tow, or assisting with some of the group workshops.

Greg is the number one big human in Ali’s life! With the arrival of Elsie, he will primarily be on Daddy Duties, but you will likely see him around the farm, tiny human in tow, or assisting with some of the group workshops.

Greg has completed his Foundation Training with the Equine Psychotherapy Institute and brings 25 years of leadership experience as an Army officer. He is passionate about helping people meet their personal development and leadership goals and is an advocate of experiential learning.

Greg is fascinated by the realisation that the Greg of ten years ago probably wouldn't recognise the Greg of today! He is here to help and support you as you partner with our horses to learn more about who you are and where you want to go.

Meet the Herd

Tilt

Carmeena

Carmeena

Tilt is the reason Greg is the number one human in Ali’s life and was the very first member of the Helping Hooves herd. He is a confident leader, with clear boundaries and a quirky personality when he chooses to share it. He can have a real sense of humour and once you find his favourite scratchy spots you should cancel your plans for the rest of the day!

Carmeena

Carmeena

Carmeena

Meemee is a Brumby from the Indulkana region of South Australia and was rescued at a young age by a Brumby Sanctuary before being adopted by Ali when she was about 3 years old. Meemee has a curious nature and her gorgeously big ears will tell you what has her attention. She likes to be close to her humans and loves to play with the water in the trough.

Texas

Carmeena

Buckley’s Ghost

Tex found Ali as a yearling and is a sweet girl with a curious nature. She is best friends with Carmeena and known for her unusually coloured eyes – one blue and one brown. Tex loves to explore new people with her nose and loves a good butt scratch from willing participants!

Buckley’s Ghost

Buckley’s Ghost

Buckley’s Ghost

Ghost is a mountain Brumby from the Kosciuszko region and was rescued by Ali as an orphaned foal. Our beloved Zeke became his guardian angel, along with Ali’s German Shepherd Oya. He is now a confident, curious, cheeky little man who loves to play!

Chimosa

Buckley’s Ghost

Chimosa

Mossy is a sweet girl who had every reason to distrust people after her early years being trained for the racetrack. She found Ali after having a foal and her confidence and trust in humans has grown within the Helping Hooves Herd. She is now one of the lead mares and often has a trail of boys following her around!

Miribad

Buckley’s Ghost

Chimosa

Miribad found Ali with Mossy and has a special place in Greg’s heart as his warhorse. He has a curious personality, loves to connect with humans and is known for the cheeky faces he makes, especially when he smells something new or interesting!

Brandy

Brandy

Brandy

The oldest member of the herd, Brandy joined the herd for retirement after a life in the show ring. He loves a good scratch, from either Miribad or a willing human, and can show his intelligent cheeky side when it comes to opening doors and gates!

Missy

Brandy

Brandy

Missy needed a home and was one of 5 horses who found Ali and Greg when they went in search of a wedding venue! While cautious at times, she is eager to connect and enjoys quiet time in human company.

Carwyn

Brandy

Carolina

Carwyn needed a home and was one of 5 horses who found Ali and Greg when they went in search of a wedding venue! He is a very cautious little man, who helps you become aware of your movements, energy and intentions. His favourite game is shaking and throwing his bucket around the paddock.

Carolina

Carolina

Carolina

Carolina and her daughter, Skyline, needed a home and were 2 of 5 horses who found Ali and Greg when they went in search of a wedding venue! She is a confident and independent girl, is clear with her boundaries, and enjoys scratches when she chooses.

Skyline

Carolina

Cinnamon

Skyline, and her mother, Carolina, needed a home and were 2 of 5 horses who found Ali and Greg when they went in search of a wedding venue! The youngest member of the herd, Skyline is a confident, curious girl who is eager to engage. She loves cuddles, butt scratches and attention of any kind.

Cinnamon

Carolina

Cinnamon

Cinnamon needed a home and was one of 5 horses who found Ali and Greg when they went in search of a wedding venue! Cinnamon has been very cautious to human touch, while curious and eager to connect. She is clear with her boundaries, but if you listen to her, become present, slow down and go at her pace, she enjoys human company.
